Welcome to TDF Stages, Theatre Development Fund’s online magazine dedicated to the unsung heroes and backstage secrets of the performing arts.

Every week, our original content will give you a surprising and insightful glimpse into how theatre and dance are created. How do actors craft their performances? Why do lighting designers make certain choices? What draws directors to their projects? By answering questions like these, we’ll give you the stories behind your favorite productions.

And we’ll tell those stories in many different ways. At TDF Stages, you’ll find features, videos, podcasts, and blog posts. You’ll hear from TDF staff members, theatre journalists, and artists themselves.

That’s partly why we call this magazine TDF Stages: We’re speaking from as many platforms as possible to create a lively conversation about live performance. We’re also highlighting work from many types of stages—Broadway, Off Broadway, off-Off Broadway, regional theatre, dance, and more.

Finally, we chose the name TDF Stages because we are excited to report on the many stages in a production’s life. From first workshops and final dress rehearsals to opening nights and seven hundredth performances, we celebrate every step of the artistic process.

We’re glad to have you with us as we launch this magazine. We look forward to sharing these stories with you.
